Moments from Båsdalvollen Mountain Farm

Donkeys Spending the Summer at the Farm

The donkeys spend the summer at the mountain farm. They come from Brekstad on the Ørland peninsula and are calm, friendly animals that are happy to receive attention and a bit of affection.

The Cow as a Valuable Resource

Daily barn work is an important part of life at the mountain farm. The animals must be cared for and milked, the barn kept tidy, and the milk used in traditional food production.

The cows’ milk forms the basis for many of the products made at the farm, including prim, gomme, and mountain farm sour cream. The milk is also used in the preparation of the traditional farm waffles.

A Place for Little Explorers

At the mountain farm, we want children to explore, play, and experience nature in their own way. There is plenty of space for imagination and small adventures in safe and peaceful surroundings.

Children can play in the sandbox, relax in the hammock, balance on ropes, and swing on the playground equipment. By the stream, they can look for tadpoles, draw with chalk on the rocks, or discover everything nature has to offer. Around the pasture, both children and adults can pick heather and blueberries during the summer season.

At the farm, children can get close to the animals and observe everyday life around the barn and mountain pasture.

Here, it is all about simple joys, fresh air, and time spent outdoors in nature.
